 Learning Basic Game Development

Video games have been a primary interest of mine since I could form thoughts. I’m currently teaching myself to code using Godot (and scrolling through dozens of youtube tutorials) in the interest of being able to create my own games. This page showcases my first little project which involves some classic “platformer” mechanics, such as controlling a player who can run and jump, enemies that can kill or be killed, and coins to collect with a scorekeeper.

This project combines mathematics, logic, and technological know-how with artistic ability. Not only do I need to know how to program a character’s death sequence, I have to render and animate it!

This sort of interactive project is very rewarding to me, as my creations are tangible in a new sense. Watching my little eyeball monster implode into green mush has yet to get old…
